Cassi Creek:
Below are the
links to two tales of horror. One has
resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
The killer was disabled and disarmed by people who rushed him while he
was still shooting. Please note and
remember this. Despite the ranting of
Wayne LaPierre, good people without guns chose to act bravely. Thus, the only injuries and deaths are
directly attributed to the single killer.
No innocent citizens were killed in wild sprays of crossfire or poorly
aimed counter-fire.
This incident
is not at all surprising. The loss of
property, when one is going to lose the last things that keep them still a
somewhat member of society, is guaranteed to generate such violent responses to
the actions of a government regardless of the legality. From what I’ve seen in news coverage of this,
the property was both a nuisance and a health hazard. If the GOP manages to further disenfranchise
citizens while dismantling the social safety nets, there are likely to be many
more such events.
The second
link describes a small town that has apparently been taken over by a local
militia. I must admit that when I heard
about an overnight town meeting shooting, this was the location I thought would
be the source of the news reports. I was
wrong, so far. However, the idea that
armed men are controlling who is allowed to attend town meetings is highly
repugnant. This take over has nothing to
do with 2nd amendment rights, states’ rights, or any other of the
rallying cries that NRA propaganda pays to have smeared on every television
screen and billboard that it can reach.
This is armed thugs practicing domestic terrorism. We call this unacceptable when Afghani
warlords practice it. It is much less
acceptable when American Taliban engage in it.
It is not at all acceptable. The governor
of Pennsylvania needs to mobilize a National Guard unit, calling it to domestic
duty, and remove the armed thugs that have taken over a town. This is more of the NRA’s fear mongering and
lies. This must be stopped, hard, now.

Bought ten ears of fresh corn this morning. I cut the kernels off the cobs and have a 12-inch skillet filled with those kernels, butter, salt, chipotle, and black pepper cooking slowly on the range.
