5 October 2011 Israel has no friends in the teavangelists.

Did Ahmadinejad really say Israel should be ‘wiped off the map’?
Some might question why Ahmadinejad’s precise words are important. Clearly, the Iranian government has unrelenting opposition to the state of Israel; so much so that it even rejects Palestinian efforts at statehood if that would result in Israel remaining in the Middle East. At the same time, the words allegedly uttered by Ahmadinejad have been used to suggest a change toward a more militaristic posture by Iran toward Israel.
Cassi Creek:
The Washington Post and Fact Checker let the Iranian leadership slide by on a possible mistranslation and a question of “who really said that Israel must be wiped off the map.
Whether the term was “Wiped off the map...” “Wiped from the pages of time,” or some other variant, the political and religious leadership of Iran intend to see Israel destroyed.  There should be no question in anyone’s mind.
In Joshua Teitelbaum’s article linked below, are copies of speeches with translations and photographs of banners and posters used at public events to stir up anti-Israel fervor among the Iranian citizenry.
There is some question about which enemy of Iran, the U.S, or Israel would be the primary target for Iran’s first use of a nuclear weapon.  There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Iran, unless it undergoes a follow-on revolution to escape the dominance of religious fanaticism, will continue to work toward the destruction of Israel and toward destroying the U.S, economically.
The Teitelbaum article is somewhat lengthy but interesting reading.  It is entirely timely during the Days of Awe.   Israel remains at grave risk, isolated, and in need of military and political support.  While there is a large pro-Zionist faction of teavangelists, they are, in the end, more likely to push Israel into an unwanted and destructive war by their support of the Israeli far religious right, than to aid Israel’s long-term survival.  Most Israelis understand that the “biblical greater Israel” is not a defensible reality.  But in their fervor to bring about their 2nd coming, the teavangelists will push Israel into a war it does not want and cannot win.
