10 September 2011 neighborhood wars

Cassi Creek:
The bad neighbor, across the road has, yet again, created a problem that will cause more ill will and cost us money.
One of his dogs recently died of disease and neglect.  So of course, he brought in another dog to maintain his pack.  Like the others, this dog is largely left to scavenge and to roam the neighborhood.  It is extremely unlikely that this dog has been vaccinated for rabies.
His adult children, defined by age, may or may not be living at the house.  They may or may not be caring for the dogs.  “Caring” is highly questionable.  The dogs appear underfed.
The dog that recently died appeared to have an intestinal obstruction.  The neighbor fails to consider neglect a valid cause of death and proclaims widely that the dog was poisoned.  This is a habitual practice.  Someone is always stealing and/or poisoning his dogs.
          So much for background.
This morning, the new dog wound up in our pool.  We don’t know what exactly took place.  We think it tried to walk on the pool solar blanket.  Obviously, it fell into the pool and, unfortunately, it damaged the solar blanket in a manner that will necessitate replacement.
We rescued the dog before it drowned and before it damaged the vinyl liner.  We documented the event with photos.  The animal control office is not open until noon.  We dragged the offending dog across the street but no one was home.  The dog is currently tied up in our front yard.  We will call animal control and we will ask for damages.
It is unlikely that the neighbor, or perhaps one of his daughters’ live-in boy friend who may be the actual owner, will feel compelled to either thank us or pay for a new solar blanket.  That would be the civilized thing to do.
It is most likely that we will be accused of trying to drown or poison the dog.
          To be continued no doubt…
