08 October 2012 Romney wants to arm hypothetical Syrian friends

The AM news has been over loaded with surrogates for Romney trumpeting endlessly that Romney has FOREIGN POLICY that he will immediately implement upon a assuming office.
These mouthpieces all are trying to convince the undecided voters that the lies being spread by Romney hold the keys to peace in the middle east, will disprove global warming, will remove the national deficit overnight, will overturn female suffrage, will eliminate gender equality, prevent the use of contraception nation-wide, and will initiate the 2nd coming exclusively for the red states of America.

Poster by Democrats eager to help  Romney campaign

To insure that the lies used by Romney-Ryan can't be proven to be false, the campaign is trying to prevent any access to the candidates by anyone carrying cameras, smart phones, or any other device that might record anything uttered by Romney-Ryan.
We harbor the suspicion that “Truth”, in any format may be injurious  to the GOP/teavangelist campaign.

The Romney-Ryan budget plans, most specifically the much-promised tax cuts for the wealthy and the intentional gutting of Medicare in concert with the privatization of social security, may in the end, are the lethal lie that infuriates and motivates enough voters to defeat Romney-Ryan.  Miles of videotape generated over the last 5 years stand ready to prove any promises made to voters and to disprove any denials such as the 47% comments.

Here’s a bit of proposed foreign policy offered by Romney today.
…“In specific policy examples, Romney called for the United States to join allies in ensuring that rebels fighting government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad get military hardware they seek. However, he stopped short of calls by some conservatives for Washington to directly arm the rebels.
"In Syria, I will work with our partners to identify and organize those members of the opposition who share our values and ensure they obtain the arms they need to defeat Assad's tanks, helicopters, and fighter jets," Romney said.
He noted that Iran is sending weaponry to Assad's forces "because they know his downfall would be a strategic defeat for them."
"We should be working no less vigorously through our international partners to support the many Syrians who would deliver that defeat to Iran -- rather than sitting on the sidelines," Romney said, making a change from the advance text of the speech that originally called for working "with" partners. "It is essential that we develop influence with those forces in Syria that will one day lead a country that sits at the heart of the Middle East…”

This proposed venture is an example of shooting blind.  One of the problems facing the potential “Arab democracies” is the overabundance of firearms in those nations.  Every town has some sort of militia with some sort of tribal alliance and some sort of religious affiliation that keeps the inhabitants at risk of becoming shot by a neighbor angry at someone or by another neighbor firing full magazines of ammunition into the air to celebrate some event.
Currently Libya is trying to recover some of those weapons in order to prevent the continuation of little armies with no leadership and no purpose.  However, it is easier to claim to recover missing weaponry than it is to recover it.
Romney wants the U.S. to somehow push the proto Arab nations into some semblance of a democracy, “leading from the front.  We have no authority to force any form of government upon another country and we have no right to push any political party into power.  We may not like the Muslim Brotherhood.  Muslims in Egypt apparently do.  However upset the American Taliban is, Egyptians have every right to elect whom they wish.  So do Libya, Tunisia, Lebanon, , and, “Oh, yeah,  Syria.
The promise to arm Syrian rebels is dangerous.  The rebels will happily accept arms, ammunition, and other military hardware.  They’ll use it to evict Assad, at some point, he and his family will be dangling like Mussolini.  Then they will turn on each other to complete the civil war they are now fighting.  Finishing each other, they’ll turn on Israel, the U.S.., and Europe.
Guess what will happen then.  Romney-Ryan and associates will generate a reason to invade Syria and Iran.  The Arms merchants will be ecstatic, The Christian right-wingers will declare a new crusade, and American men and women will be caught in another senseless foreign war in the Middle East that cannot be politically or militarily justified.
But that's ’all right.  As long as the red states have, an anti-Muslim war to slobber over and the American Taliban can stand at their pulpits and incite repression and bigotry that rivals that spread by the Arabs Romney likes to think will become friendly to America.
There’s a reason Military history should be studied before throwing new and more powerful weapons into a conflict.  Those weapons intended to kill Syrian loyalists are going to look pretty much like the ones we gave the Afghan forces.  In addition, we all know whom those are being used to kill these days.
