12 May 2011 Radar loops and tornado counts 27 April 2011

The national weather service at Morristown TN has uploaded a compilation of tornadoes, location, fatalities, and the relevant radar loops that apply to the various storms.  Using the link below will take you on a replay of the supercell thunderstorms and tornadoes on the day that established the new record for tornadoes/24 hours.
If you are not as much of a weather geek as I am, this may not hold any interest for you.  Never fear, I’m sure that the replay will eventually satisfy even me, and I will return to some sort of socio-political tirade aimed at the teavangelist/GOP alliance.  Just skip the weather link and look below.
The following table summarizes the surveyed tornadoes by county, including fatalities and injuries. This table will be updated later as more information becomes available. CAUTIONARY NOTE: Long-lived tornadoes that crossed county lines will be counted multiple times in this tab

I’m pleased to see more and more letters to the editor in the Johnson City Press attacking our elected Congressman, David Phillip Roe (R) 1st TN.
The representative whom Roe replaced was a theocon who did almost all of his campaigning in churches.  There seemed to be some hope that he could be replaced with a more moderate representative who was not intent upon using his political office to convert all Tennesseans who don’t share his extremist religion.
Roe, a retired OB/Gyn, was formerly the mayor of Johnson City.  His election, defeating Davis, was for us, the lesser of two evils.  There was some conjecture on the part of the public and some complaint from Davis that many Democrats crossed over to vote as Republicans in the primary, voting against Davis and handing Roe the job.  I suspect the complaint may well be true.  But Davis withdrew his demand for investigation.  We did not engage in crossover voting.
Now we are saddled with yet another teavangelist representing our district.  No Democrat has held this seat for over 100 years.  We need a change desperately.  Roe is in thrall to the large energy companies, to the drug houses, to the insurance companies.  He can be found voting the teavangelist party line.  Most recently, he voted for a rider to HR3 that will allow the teavangelists and their theocon financiers to use the IRS as an anti-abortion weapon.  He needs to be replaced by someone who remembers that the RNC and Tea party mobs don’t pay his salary or provide his Medicare benefits.
The 2012 elections are 16.5 months away.  Already we are being bombarded with the machinations of around the clock campaigning as the GOP/teavangelist hopefuls jockey for poll numbers, ballot placement, and favorable press coverage.  They will mob Fox News and the GOP events to gain favorable press coverage from the Fox News flacks and avoid those networks with less obvious biases. I believe it is far too early to begin this campaign.  Certainly, there is groundwork to be done.  However, there is no necessity to begin any campaign for national office more than 2 months prior to the election.  Modern communications allow wide area access to all candidates and the presidential debates, if they are done properly, should allow all voters to make up their minds about their choice of candidates.
It would be a good thing, indeed, to limit the length of all campaigns to two months.  Thank about it and if you agree, share the idea with your family and friends.  Lots of letters complaining about the cost of a two-year campaign could help to reform the process.
