6 January 2010 stocking up between the storms

We ran into Johnson City this morning. We needed to replenish the pantry before the next round of snow storms rolls over us.

The county apparently decided not to clear our road from the Greene County line to Horse Creek Road. The rest of Cassi road had been partially cleared. The main roads were dry and clear this morning but had melt puddles on them this afternoon that will freeze the minute the sun is off them. Cassi road was almost entirely clear coming back in until we reached the stretch unclear this morning. It is still icy.

We tried a new sushi restaurant today. They advertise ½ price sushi on Wednesday. In reality only five menu items are priced that way. Even those five are not truly half price. The customer must order one of the five items and can then buy a second serving of that item for half price. We probably won’t go back. There was a television blaring a sports program that was annoying. The sushi rice was not well compacted and the pieces fell apart when we tried to pick them up. We have had better from a local organic food store. There is also another new Japanese restaurant in Johnson City that has good sushi.

We tried to pay property taxes today, according to the bills we had received. The good people in the court house told us that one bill had been charged off and we did not owe it. The other bill was valid. When we bought the property it was in separate parcels. The last assessor combined them for us on the tax books to save us some money. But the combination escaped the people who sent out the bills. Interesting things come up when you go to the civic center.

Taxed, lunched, libraried, & groceried, we returned home to batten down for another cold night and snow to follow.
